Have you ever thought to consider how to keep track of your pet if your pet went missing? Unfortunately, there is always a risk that your pet cat or dog could get lost, run away, or worse still, get stolen. Keeping track of your pet is not all that difficult and advances in technology have made finding a lost pet even easier.
Here are some simple ways that you can keep track of your pet in the unfortunate circumstance that your pet goes missing.
Microchip
Getting your pet microchipped is one of the most effective best ways to find a missing pet. The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is painlessly inserted under your pet’s skin. If your pet is picked up by a shelter agency or someone takes your lost pet to a local vet, information about you – the pet’s owner – is on the chip. One of the many services that vets do is to contact the pet owner. All the shelter or vet has to do is scan the chip to find your address via a registry incorporated into the American Animal Hospital Association.
GPS trackers
More and more pet owners are using GPS trackers to help keep track of their pet. GPS pet trackers incorporate cellular and GPS technology to help you know where your pet is 24/7. In fact, your pet dog or cat is traceable as long as the battery is working and your pet is in range of a cellular signal. GPS trackers can also help you monitor your pet’s activity and sent alerts to your smartphone if your pet leaves a “safe place.”
Fix your pet
Although fixing your pet may not help your track your furry friend if they decide to run from home, fixing can reduce the risk of them trying to find a mate. Even house cats that never go outside can make a dash for “freedom” if they are in heat.
