Meet Dan

Born and raised in New Zealand, Dan is a kiwi through and through! He currently lives in Orange County with his wife, 3 wonderful children, horses, and too many dogs to count! His journey began when he moved to Canada where he was a K9 handler. Over the years his journey has blossomed into training horses, family dogs, service dogs (which have a special place in Dan’s heart), and he has even been involved in sport dog handling.

Dan style is a little different and involves luring, play and positive reinforcement. He believes that every pet can be of service to its family when they are trained proactively (instead of reactively). Unique to his style, he is good at letting a dog think and make a positive choice as opposed to other styles that just reinforce a particular trick. He also likes to see them learn useful tasks that are traditionally taught to service animals.

This style is not a one size fits all – it is tailored to reduce stress and anxiety for the family and then aimed at enjoying and having fun with your dog in ways that aid them fitting into your daily routines.

Prevention Is Key

We believe it is better to train puppies to be the dogs we want them to be rather than having to correct bad behavior later. That is why we are so excited to announce that we are now offering Dog Training here at Banderas Pet Hospital! We offer a variety of different training options to fit every dog’s training needs.

Private Classes are offered Tuesdays- Fridays as space is available and consist of a 1 hour one on one training session with Dan.
Prior to joining Group Classes we highly recommend a 1 hour one on one evaluation. This sets your dog up for success by placing them in the appropriate class for them and their training needs.

Group Classes are a 1 hour class with a limit of 4 people per class and are offered on the following days and times, as space is available; Tuesdays 9am, 5pm and 6pm, Wednesdays 5 pm and 6pm, and Saturdays 9:30am and 10:45 am.

  • Group Class: Pre-paid $245 for a 6 week course, one class credit per week
  • Additional classes are offered at $40 per class over the once per week credit
  • Each class is scheduled to reduce class size, you can cancel up to 24hr prior to a scheduled class with no loss of credit
  • FREE pack walks on Saturday mornings at 8am for all who are actively enrolled in group class.

Drop Off Classes are offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays as space is available. Drop off will be between 9am and 12:30pm with pick up times assigned at 2pm, 3pm or 4:15pm. During the time at Banderas your dog will participate in a 50 minute training class with Dan, where he will assess any problem areas and work on correcting them. A 15 minute overview of the class; advancements, things to work on, and a plan for the next session will all be discussed between yourself and Dan at the time of pick up. If the assigned pick up time does not work Dan will provide the overview over the phone.

Call us today to schedule your first training session! Space is limited and is filling up fast!
